All day...

So remember awhile ago when I blogged about Girl Walk//All Day? The film is finally completed and they even have a trailer! They have posted the entire work here on Vimeo.

I get a little choked up watching it. I can't put my finger on why. I guess I miss New York.

lana del rey.

Sorry it has been so long. I hope I am a welcome "edition" to your reader and if not, well, blurgh. I am actually going to give this frequent blogging a shot. After three and a half amazing months in New York I can say, with confidence, that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks and this old dog has a few up here sleeve.

Now on to the real reason I wanted to post:

W Magazine has been my bible of late. It helped me locate the perfect monogramed satchel, find a beautiful ring fit for my birthstone and introduced me to Lana Del Rey. To sum her up in one word would not do her justice but if you held a gun to my head and demanded I would say... haunting.

Letter of the day is: S for Skinny

I don't know about you, but lately, I have found myself daydreaming about what I will wear when I am once again skinny. Don't get me wrong, I am not going to put my style life on hold due to obesity but there is a certain modesty (or something life that) that I must maintain.

Today I found three piece via nasty gal that I simply need to put in my "What did you do? You lost so much weight" file.

Thankfully. I now have no excuse

So, I know i have been incredibly absent from the blog. I would be surprised if I had any followers left. With that said, due to some major upcoming changes in my life, a recent purchase and a temporary move to the best city in the world, I am back.

So here is the deal:
1. I am temporarily relocating to New York City for work. I will there from September to December.
2. I purchased an iPad because of this trip. I am blogging from it now. This means I can blog from anywhere.
3. I have started the process of losing the 50 lbs I have gained. I know! I know, 50 lbs. Gaaawwwd. Gross.

So there we go. I will still continue to blog about all things fashion but I might be updating you about weight loss. To be honest with you i started a weight loss blog awhile ago but I had a hard time getting into it. I look at weight loss and diet as a necessary evil to fit into the designer duds I plan on picking up at sample sales across Manhattan, not something to dwell on and focus my entire life around. If I am going to lose the weight and keep it off I can't be an extreme food nazi. I think I am just going to give up meat. Oh and walking to and fro will also help. I think

So, welcome to my new journey. I am looking forward to having you along for the ride.

I want this. NOW.
Mara Hoffman - Embroidered Bustier Dress

Find it here.

Do you ever have something occur that knocks the wind out of you?

Yes?

Me too.

I am still struggling to wrap my arms around it. I am trying to act normally, but I am still reeling a bit. How does one move past something quickly - because to be completely honest that is ALL I want to do.

Ok. enough about me and more about what I am listening to....

Hmmmmmmm.

I totally bought a new bag.

Really.. I literally have a "brand new bag".

Drum roll... thank you Frassy Rags

God love it. Seriously. God Loves Yellow Highlighter Clutch Purse

my new hair.

I am getting my hair done next Friday. I have not highlighted my hair in FOREVER. I don't want my hair to look unnaturally streaky. I have had an itch to make some changes to my look. I am going to grow out the ol' bangs (I think) and go with a different color. Nothing too drastic or streaky. I will be brining my stylist this picture of The Man Repeller's new hair color.

Here are her before and afters:

gold/slash/vermeil

When I was young, I hated gold. I thought it was tacky. I never understood why a yellow metal would cost more than classic sterling silver, although believe me, I was not complaining. Fast forward 10 years and here I am ... BATHED in golden baubbles and menwear watches. So you can imagine the sheer joy I felt when I read this post on The Man Repeller. I instantly fell in love with the necklace she was wearing. A perfect piece to wear with a beautiful dress to cocktail party (I have just the one in mind) or with a heather grey tricotton racerback tank from American Apparel.

Here are some of my favorites:

Annabelle Bracelet 0 18 KT recycled gold vermeil $175)

"Tiny Bang" 18 KT Gold Vermeil $135

Baby Brass - 18 KT gold vermeil $135
(I think Tiny Bang and Baby Brass would look amazing layered)
Ariel Baby Octopus Ring - 18 KT gold vermeil -$290

Eve Necklace - Sterling Silver Plated and 18 KT gold vermiel - $350

Find ALL these pieces PLUS some at http://www.kimberlybaker.com/

I also have found a pair of shoes, shorts and a tank that I felt I just HAD to share with you dear reader. I would like to thank TIBI for these beautiful gems. Find them here.

Solid Pant: $246

Silk CDC Cami in Cornhusk - $158

Barque Shoe - Textured Linen - $290

What am I listening to right now?

yes, another blog about nail polish....

I know I acknowledged my addiction to nail polish in this post. I told myself I would stop. I really, really, really tried. But I broke down and bought yet another nail #winner.

Essie has really outdone it self.

See for yourself.

Peach filled dreams...

So I have been on the hunt for the perfect silk shirt. Much to my displeasure, the only shirt that satisfies my idea of the perfectly placed silk shirt is one by Equipment.

That is right... the only shirt I truly like is almost $200.

Which, BTW, makes me incredibly mad.

Here is it... in all its glory...

So what should I accesorize this bad boy with?

My new found love for curb bracelets and friendship bracelet "floss".

Zinnnngaaa.

Ok, so I love making friendship bracelets... I am wearing a poorly made one now. As my co-worker so aptly put it...

"It looks like a third grader tried to strangle a cricket with colorful thread and it ended up as a knot on your wrist..."

Which means:

Tonight, I am going to drink beer and make another. I am thinking blue, green and peach. MK and DSS might want to watch out... because I might be slinging a bracelet or two your way. I expect you to wear then daily and if not... I will be so insulted that we can no longer be friends.

(as if).

What am I listening to?

One more thing...

Looking over my blog I realized that I have not posted any fashion related posts in awhile.

I promise to do that more.

Cross my Heart and Hope to die.

Mash-Up Saturday.

I woke up this morning after a fantastic night out with friends (both new and old) in the mood to cuddle up, watch some bad television and read the New York Times Magazine on my Blackberry.

And thank goodness I did.

I found an article on Jacob Krupnick and the amazing film he is creating. Rooting from a freelance promo video for a footwear show, which casting was posted on Craigslist with the promise of pizza as payment, he found Anne Marsen.

Anne is a dancer. A righteous, epic dancer.

Because of this, Krupnick thought she would be the perfect person for his next project - a homage to the mash-up. Using the entire "All Day" album by Girl Talk (download immediately - you have no excuse it is available FREE on GT's website http://www.illegal-art.net/allday/ )
Anne danced her way through New York. After much editing Krupnick posted an 8 minute promo video in order to raise money for the entire project. The video "Girl Walk // All Day" gained followers at an astounding rate and within 6 days, using Kickstarter.com, Krupnick was able to raise $14,000 for the project.

I have included the "Girl Walk // All Day" video below for your viewing pleasure as well as a link to the original article

Enjoy.

ps. You can still back the project on Kickstarter.com I did. A $50.00 donation got me not only the satisfaction of supporting an awesome project but also pretty sweet perks like this ..

Receive a limited edition poster (image coming soon!) + "Associate Producer" credits in the film and on the website + DVD + 1 invite to the opening + project updates.

pps. I AM AN ASSOCIATE PRODUCER OF SOMETHING. Ding Dong!

If you liked it then you should have put a bird on it...

I have been watching a lot of Portlandia lately and let me tell you... I LOVE IT.

Here is a favorite.. also, seriously, if you liked it then you should have put a bird on it.

Cat Days?

SO I know I am late on this whole Florence and the Machine thing. I resisted their music for so long until I heard this song....

Adele.

I posted about her before.

She has an amazing voice. Soulful, enchanting and beautiful.

Enjoy on this day of love. And remember, in the true tradition of St. Valentines Day make certain to beat your significant other with the hide of a recently slaughtered animal.

I have a problem.

I have had it for a long time.

It is a sick addiction and it needs to stop.

I am addicted to nail polish.

My quest for the perfect polish started 3 years ago when I finally stopped incessantly biting my nails. I never realized, until I started trying difference polishes, how incredibly different each texture and color richness is. I now know what brand is sub par, which one is WAY too expensive for its quality, and which bargain polishes I love to take home with me from Walmart.

Enter - Essie.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Essie polishes and NOW that they are available in the full array of colors at Walmart I can't stop buying them. Yesterday, when I left the house to buy beer and avocados for the superbowl I spied this awesome color...

"Tart Deco"

And I just had to have it. Now, I am happily pounding away at my keyboard with fun and fresh coral finger nails. I can't wait until summer to proudly parade around with it on my toenails.

sigh - sandal weather.

Ok, so what am I listening to today? Something bizarro.

Legalize it...

"If you hate gay marriage it is really because you hate gay love..."

Human Rights is a huge passion of mine. I believe that we are all equal beings and therefore should all be afforded the same rights.

*Step on Soapbox*

One of these human rights issues I feel strongly about is the legalization of Gay Marriage. It angers me that people are so against it and I have trouble grasping why. It makes me sad that not everyone has the same ability to marry as I did and it exacerbates me that while a loving couple of the same sex that has been together forever can't get married but Britney Spears can get married for 55 hours. I mean really, is that the "sanctity of marriage" that everyone refers to?

* Step off Soapbox*

Ok, so I am done but I really want to leave you with a very moving speech by a young man in Iowa. I am still wiping the tears from my eyes.

And while I am at it I am hitting the "purchase now" button on this little ditty... I think it adequately expresses my feelings on the matter.

What I can't get out of my head AND plans for next week....

Ok, so I know it has been awhile.

sorry. promise.

Right back at it.

I plan on blogging more from my blackberry. It is easier to do things on the go. I am going to do my first "live blogging event" ever during a concert I am going to next week. More about that later...

1. I have a song that has been stuck in my head for days. I love the song so the experience of not being able to get it out of my head is not SO terrible. In fact, it makes a great soundtrack while walking down the street....

This is it... Boyfriend by Best Coast. I do hope it gets lodged in your cranium just like me.
Check out their myspace (the only thing myspace is seemingly good for) and enjoy the video below:

# 2 - The husband and I are going on an impromptu road trip to Charlottesville, VA to see one of our favorite bands Dr. Dog. Every week when I get itchy and suffocated at work I check all the websites for venues in DC/VA/NC/PA to see if there are any bands coming we like within reasonable driving distance. Normally, the bands we like to see play in DC in the middle of the week so we can't go. This past week, I was looking at the website for The Jefferson Theatre in Charlottesville, saw Dr.Dog was coming and immediately took off work on Thursday so we could attend the concert Wed and stay in Charlottesville for a rambunctious night out.

Needless to say we are super excited PARTICULARLY because I just found out that ANOTHER awesome band, The Head and the Heart, is opening for them.

Soooooo excited. That will be my awesome blogging event. Duh! It will start 9 pm SHARP on 2/09/2011.

And I leave you with this....

a. The Head and the Heart - "Rivers and Roads"

b. Dr Dog - NPR Tiny Desk Concert...

HUZZAH !!!!
